park cafe, there is no end in sight for the mouth watering food options here. adding to the culinary delights is the family of business he which includes skylight creamery, skylight and the 18 raisin. >> skylight market has been here since 1940. it's been in the family since 1964. his father and uncle bought the market and ran it through sam taking it over in 1998. at that point sam revamped the market. he installed a kitchen in the center of the market and really made it a place where chefs look forward to come. he created community through food. so, we designed our community as having three parts we like to draw as a triangle where it's comprised of our producers that make the food, our staff, those who sell it, and our

guests who come and buy and eat the food. and we really feel that we wouldn't exist if it weren't for all three of those components who really support each other. and that's kind of what we work towards every day. >> valley creamery was opened in 2006. the two pastry chefs who started it, chris hoover and walker who is sam's wife, supplied all the pastries and bakeries for the market. they found a space on the block to do that and the ice cream kind of came as an afterthought. they realized the desire for ice cream and we now have lines around the corner. so, that's been a huge success. in 2008, sam started 18 reasons, which is our community and event space where we do five events a week all around the idea of bringling people closer to where the food comes from and closer to each other in that process.

>> 18 reasons was started almost four years ago as an educational arm of their work. and we would have dinners and a few classes and we understood there what momentum that people wanted this type of engagement and education in a way that allowed for a more in-depth conversation. we grew and now we offer -- i think we had nine, we have a series where adults learned home cooking and we did a teacher training workshop where san francisco unified public school teachers came and learned to use cooking for the core standards. we range all over the place. we really want everyone to feel like they can be included in the conversation. a lot of organizations i think which say we're going to teach cooking or we're going to teach gardening, or we're going to get in the policy side of the food from conversation. we say all of that is connected and we want to provide a place that feels really community oriented where you can be interested in multiple of those

things or one of those things and have an entree point to meet people. we want to build community and we're using food as a means to that end. >> we have a wonderful organization to be involved with obviously coming from buy right where really everyone is treated very much like family. coming into 18 reasons which even more community focused is such a treat. we have these events in the evening and we really try and bring people together. people come in in groups, meet friends that they didn't even know they had before. our whole set up is focused on communal table. you can sit across from someone and start a conversation. we're excited about that. >> i never worked in catering or food service before. it's been really fun learning about where things are coming from, where things are served from. >> it is getting really popular. she's a wonderful teacher and i think it is a perfect match for us. it is not about home cooking. it's really about how to facilitate your ease in the kitchen so you can just cook.

>> i have always loved eating food. for me, i love that it brings me into contact with so many wonderful people. ultimately all of my work that i do intersects at the place where food and community is. classes or cooking dinner for someone or writing about food. it always come down to empowering people and giving them a wonderful experience. empower their want to be around people and all the values and reasons the commitment, community and places, we're offering a whole spectrum of offerings and other really wide range of places to show that good food is not only for wealthy people and they are super committed to accessibility and to giving people a glimpse of the beauty that really is available to all of us that sometimes we forget in our day to day running around. >> we have such a philosophical

i am here with matt cohen, from off the grid. >> we assembled trucks and put them into a really unique heurban settings. >> what inspired you to start off the grid? >> i was helping people lodge mobile food trucks. the work asking for what can we get -- part together? we started our first location and then from there we expanded locations. >> why do think food trucks have grown? >> i have gotten popular because the high cost of starting a brick and mortar or strong, the rise of social media, trucks can be easily located, and food trucks to offer a unique outdoor experience that is not easily replaced by any of their setting any worlwhere else in san franc.

san francisco eaters are interested in cuisine. there adventuress. the fact theyuse grea use great ingredients and make gourmet food makes unpopular. >> i have been dying to have these. >> i have had that roach coach experience. it is great they're making food they can trust. >> have you decided? >> we are in the thick of the

competition? >> my game was thrown off because they pulled out of my first appetizer choice. >> how we going to crush clear? >> it will be easy. probably everyone has tried, something bacon tell us delicious. >> -- people tell us is delicious. >> hopefully you think the same thing. >> hopefully i am going to win. we're in the financial district. there is a food truck right there. every day changes. it is easy and fun to go down. these are going to be really good. >> how are you going to dominate? >> i think he does not know what he is doing. >> i was thinking of doing [unintelligible] we are underrepresented.

>> i was singing of starting an irish pub. that was my idea. >> one our biggest is the corned beef and cabbage. we are asking people what they're thinking in getting some feedback. >> for a lot of people i am sure this combination looks very wrong. it might not sound right on paper but when you taste it to or have it in your mouth, it is a variety. this is one of the best ways in creating community. people gather around and talk about it and get to know different cultures. that brings people together and i hope more off the grid style and people can mingle and interact and remove all our differences and work on our similarities. this creates opportunity.

committee, we have been doing at this for about nine months now and mayor lee gave me the honor and the privilege of taking on this task. we have had incredible momentum, we have an incredible bid committee compiled and we have mayor willie brown involved and we have charles scwhab and rice and joe, deasandro and an amazing collection, but today we are humble and honored to add the fire power to the committee in the form of world champions, and a hall of famer, and folks that have taken part in over ten percent of the super bowls, and we have great admiration and respect for both of you and we cannot thank you enough for coming on board and helping us get this over the goal line.

we hand off our final package on may 7th, to, the nfl owners and then we present on may 21st, but, the one thing that we want everybody to realize is that this is the community-wide effort and that this is going to be something that is not just about san francisco and it is not just about santa clara and it is about the entire region coming together and the reason that i took on this role was that we have amazing things happening in this community and we have amazing technology and we have amazing business leaders and we want to highlight that and we are going to over the next six weeks. but, i'm focused also in highlighting what is happening for those that are or the things that are not yet great, we have 1.3 million people who are too poor to meet their basic needs and so what we are going to do by bringing the greatest game to the greatest city and region, is we are going to make this good for the entire community, and that is

why this is going to be the most philentropic super bowl bid and hopefully super bowl and the nfl and the nation has ever seen and with that i would like to turn it over to mayor lee. >> thank you. thank you. >> good morning. daniel, thank you, again for your wonderful leadership, up our bay area super bowl committee and thank you, again, i still remember the very first time that we talked about what it was and what the 9ers meant to us and i want to thank you and the whole 49ers franchise for continuing to work on this wonderful legacy that we have with the 9ers and supporting if not helping us lead the super bowl bid, committee as well. you know, just the last couple of days, i have to admit that some of us were kind of looking

very, disappointed about the events or regarding the blue angels. and it just kind of reminded us how important these events are to a great city like san francisco, to the fan--base but also to the residents as well as to neighborhoods and the businesses events like the blue angels and like the fleet week, and we can't do without because when they do decide that they can't be here for any reason, there is a real heavy breathing that goes on, and that certainly is something that i felt. but that means that i'm as enthusiastic about the america's cup because that will definitely be a strong filler in. but i am absolutely thrilled and enthusiastic about our super bowl bid. and it will be a great thing for us to do, and it brings as daniel said, all of the elements of our bay area together, the cities and the corporations and the neighborhoods and the fan base and it has that over tone that

i love about what the nfl will do, with us, with the proceeds of this wonderful event. you know, i have had a chance and i know that all of you have had a chance to relive the excitement of the super bowl and as i told coach severt and steve young just now in my office i paced five yards back in my office all day long and at home. just to relive that possibility that occurred this past super bowl. and that just reflects the excitement that we have with the super bowl bid. and now, today, it is my privilege to co-announce with everyone here two people that are additional fire power to our super bowl bid committee. george sefert and steve young don't need introduction but i love talking about them with the past 9ers. the coach led the 9ers to two supervisor victoris in 90 and

95. and he brought his own 49ers legacy because during had time as i remember, the 49ers earned the best defense team in the whole nation that was a wonderful, wonderful achievement and it continues with that legend, so coach, thank you for bringing your winning record and your wonderful great name to help us win another super bowl, super bowl bid for super bowl 50 or 51 for the bay area. and coach, partner in 1995 was, of course, the legendary, hall of famer, famous quarterback steve young who threw a record 6 touchdown passes during that game and became the first ever player to lead the super bowl in rushing and passing. thank you for your support, your leadership and your lending your legend to our pay area super bowl bid to help us complete the final yards of this effort in bringing it all the way to the end zone.

and you know, george, and steve, and jed they all know that there is no better place in america to host a super bowl, 50 or 51 than the san francisco and the bay area. and with san francisco as the official host city and the game to be played in santa clara we know that every hotel room and restaurant between here and san jose will be filled and that the entire region will come together and benefit tremendously from the hosting of the super bowl and that is why we have so many of our departments that are here from our city administrator to our public works all of the city families coming together, with the bay area, to make sure that we host a great event for the whole entire area. and i know that once we host this first super bowl, once we win it, and we host it, that we will be in the rotation for future super bowls as well.

we have the hotel rooms, we have the hospitality and we have the transportation network and we have the businesses and the community to support, to do this right and to do this well. and so, i want to just again, thanks daniel, thanks the entire super bowl bid committee, and welcome in george and steve to join jed and daniel and all of us in making sure that we persuade the nfl in may, that we have earned the right to host super bowl 50. thank you. push [ applause ] >> as you know we have the draft coming up and a lot of draft picks and we traded up to get the two top guys in the draft and we have them now and in coach siefert and steve young and i think that it is very important to echo what mayor lee said this is about

bringing a region together, you know, everyone from san francisco, to santa clara to san jose, that is what sports is about and that is what sports does for a community. and we have been working tirelessly to build a state of the art stadium, that embodies northern california. from the technical standpoint, from a sustainable standpoint. and you know, to it rate one of the things that i am the most proud of, this will be the first lead stadium in the national football league and we will be neutral to the grid for the ten home games and that means for the home games we will be powered completely by the sun and nobody else can say that in professional sports in this country. and i think that is something that highlights what we are trying to do and what we are trying to show sports can be not just a great thing for the community, but a becon for what we should be striving for every day in our life from a technical standpoint and sustainability standpoint and we are excited that the weather

has been fantastic over the winter where we are ahead of schedule on construction and we are moving forward and, we can't wait to play a first game in 2014, and we are looking very much forward to hosting the super bowl, and getting ourselves into the rotation. and as we all know, we lived here and we love the bay area and we want to show everybody else in the world that this is the greatest place to host the greatest game in the world. and i would like to introduce the coach and really thank both steve and george for being here and being a part of this. thank you. [ applause ] thank you, jed. thank you, mayor and dan, i'm obviously proud and excited to be part of this committee that will attempt to bring the 50th super bowl to the san francisco bay area, it was in i believe, 1967, that the first super bowl was played in los angeles, california. and that seems only fitting now

that the nfl bring the 50th super bowl to northern california in the san francisco bay area. san francisco in the area over the years is a hosted successfully, many nfc championship games, and the super bowl at stanford in 1985, i thought it was 95. the years go by so rapidly and as now recently, the world series games and we have so much to offer and we are going to have an awesome stadium as far as the san francisco bay area and the attractiveness of the city itself. and from the wine country to the north to carm el to the south. it is a great venue to host a game. i'm familiar with one of the two areas in particular. more than the other. the north. and but at any rate, we have a tremendous tradition going back
